Latest Updates from Our Project:

Six days left - custom pins cooking, + final color morph
28 days ago – Fri, Oct 18, 2024 at 08:19:36 AM

Good morning, bird gang!

This morning marks six days left on GOLDEN AGE PARROTS.

With the addition of crows, jays, and some 1.5" pins, some things worked themselves out. We unlocked 1" mini pins late last night, thanks to a third, mystery, custom pin backer.

1" pins are now available for:
  • Cockatiel
  • Budgerigar
  • Green cheek conure
  • Lovebird
  • Caique
  • Scarlet macaw
  • Sun conure
  • Indian ringneck parrot
  • Quaker parrot
  • African gray parrot
  • Kakapo
  • Pigeon
  • Crow
  • Blue jay

All of these pins can be snagged for $6 each as addons. They will be $8 retail, so, if you want one of these little dudes, it's a 25% discount thru the campaign!

Next: wake up, gang, new bird just dropped.

TritonTheLavendeer is our second CUSTOM COLOR MORPH backer, and they were kind enough to give me some creative freedom. With the male budgie mold and "pastel colors," it was clear to me what had to be done - and, with their approval, we decided to make something special.

I lost Vivi early this year in a tragic accident. While the wound is no longer fresh, I think about him a lot. A lot of things remind me of him, in ways I don't want to remember.

I don't know if there'll ever be another bird just like him. But, I can hope that life puts me in a position to look for more Vivis in other birds in need. Working with the HUSTLE, and building something sustainable with customers who take the time to read my deranged rambling, makes me feel like someday I can have that again.

Thank you so much for your support, and thanks for giving other backers this new pin!

This opaline budgie is available as a 2" pin. I am seeing if it's worth making a female variant too, but for now, it'll just be this male.

So, what's next?

Our next stretch goal is the cockatoos. The kakapo will already be available, no matter what, but the sulfur-crested too and black palm too will be unlocked at $6.9k.

After that is another set of color morphs, and then, our java finch and pigeon.

$8.5k means everyone will get a sticker sheet for free. I'm debating making a black/gray sticker sheet to toss in with the colorful option, because of our crow. More colors, and our toucan/jay/crow goal, are in there too. And then, $9.99k, for the 1.5" pins, is the last goal I think we will reach.

I'll play everything by ear from here.

I'm off to go line some pins and get sticker vectors set before work, and I will probably check in with you guys again tomorrow.

Thank you, as always, for reading!

1" pins now available

Hey gang! Quick one here.

We had someone privately reach out and request another $400 custom pin. They were extremely polite, and I have no integrity, so we will have a third custom for this campaign.

This, plus a good amount of you adding new 2" pins to your pledge from the new unlocks, means 1" face pins are now available.

You will be able to purchase:
  • Cockatiel
  • Budgerigar
  • Green cheek conure
  • Lovebird
  • Sun conure
  • Caique
  • Scarlet macaw
  • Indian ringneck
  • Quaker parrot
  • African gray
  • Crow
  • Blue jay
  • Kakapo
  • Pigeon

1" mini pins thru campaign addons.

Thank you, everyone! I hope to have some more to show you later this week. I am waiting on the new budgie color morph to be approved by the backer, and inking our first 2 full custom pins.

Remember: sticker sheets, sticker-only tiers, and shiny holo gunbird stickers are also now available.

ONE WEEK TO GO: Crow, blue jay, kakapo, pigeon + select 1.5" pins available

Good evening, jailbirds!

So, two days ago, I sent you all (and some people across the socials) a survey. It's no secret, we are not doing as well as expected, and we're less than a third thru the planned stretch goals for the campaign.

Your feedback (excluding the few people who put "no" "N/A" "i don't even know why i get these" "everything is too expensive) was, genuinely extremely helpful. A few of you guys wrote damn near entire essays about your thoughts on the campaign, its potential turnout issues, and what you'd like to see - both for GAP, and my future projects.

I'm also not ignoring the kind, heartfelt words of support. When I said I am offering store credit for helpful feedback or suggestions, I mean it. Please check your emails in the next few days.

As expected, but no less unfortunate, is that a lot of you guys simply can't afford to back right now. I appreciate the honesty here. In fact, launching towards the end of the year, instead of tax refund season, is a big factor that may have set GAP up for failure.

Many of you expressed you'd like a cheaper option to support the campaign, even if you are not able to buy pins.

While I never expect you to support my projects when you need to keep the heat on and feed yourself, I have made this an option. There are now single vinyl sticker, single 4" sticker sheet, and 10-sticker discounted STICKER BOMB tiers.

GOLDEN AGE PARROTS was structured in a way that many desirable stretch goals were placed towards the end, expecting to easily reach them based on BIRD CRIMES' funding results. Whether or not this was a mistake, or just a product of circumstances, it is not fair to restrict these high value results beyond an unreachable goal.

I asked, up front, if making certain pins available would cause you to either back, or increase your backing pledge, for this project. The overwhelming answer was, "jesus Christ ken, shut the fuck up, and give us the crows."

So, with great pleasure, I am ready to announce: the crows are here.

Actually, so are the blue jay, pigeon, kakapo, and the alternate "cartoon" crow.

Blue jay, pigeon, kakapo, crow, and cartoon crow 2" pins will be options - regardless of our final funding amount. These are some of the most popular birds. Even if I have to make them partially out of pocket, it is a long term investment to have their up-front costs partially covered by the campaign.

A lot of you surveyed were also super excited for some of the 1.5" pins - I'm not sure how legit you are about it, so I cannot fund them ALL out of pocket... but I can do a few more popular ones.

I'll be real with you, as I'm typing this, I need to go to Costco because my milk went bad and I'm out of protein bars - so, I will update the campaign assets later tonight to reflect these unlocks.

The jury is still out on the 1" mini pins. They have some enthusiasts, but not enough for me to cover them without reaching our $6k goal. Who knows? Maybe we can reach that, in the next week... let's find out!

I am currently working on our 2 custom pin tiers. One thing that WAS clear, through the surveys, is that you guys do like the idea of getting custom pins in my art style - but, that for some of you, the price may be prohibitive.

I am weighing how to offer these options going forward, and possibly making them more affordable for certain backers. Currently, $400 for full customs and $150 for color morphs is what is needed for production baselines and labor, but I will see what I can do - maybe smaller pin options will be offered in the future. Your concerns have been heard, and I am looking into it!

But, for now, we have two backers who have been lovely to work with. These guys aren't quite final, but they're getting there. How do you like these birds?
There is one more custom color morph option that will be available for the campaign currently... I am working on this final color option now. It is a palette swap for the budgie pins. Stay tuned!

If you want your very own color design of an existing campaign bird, and 10 of your custom pin, there is one final slot.

I am open to feedback, questions, and concerns regarding the rest of the campaign. I'd like to make this last week count as much as possible. Let me know what you think of these changes. More importantly, if something seems off, or isn't working for you: let's talk!

Thank you for your support so far. If nothing else, GOLDEN AGE PARROTS has been a hell of a learning experience.

I'm off to get milk that isn't yogurt. Take it easy, the rest of the week!

Check-in survey
about 1 month ago – Tue, Oct 15, 2024 at 05:16:14 PM

Good evening, bird gang!

I want to be clear: we are funded, and I am extremely grateful for the support so far. However, it is no secret we are not meeting the lofty heights set by BIRD CRIMES.

My good friend Doreen over at roundbirbart ran a survey today asking backers some honest questions about their hopes for her conure plush campaign, their reasons for backing, and the things they did (or didn't) like so far. I figure, this may be a good time to do the same.

Whether you've backed or not, or you aren't planning to, it doesn't matter. This is an open survey. It'd help me a ton if you took under 5 minutes to tell me what you think. There are questions about self-funding (auto unlocking) several stretch goals - if you want something that's a little bit too far out, and that'd get you to back, speak up!

You can stay anonymous if you want, but there is a spot to put your BackerKit email. I'll pick a few people with the most thoughtful responses to get some free store or campaign credit in a few days.

I appreciate your time. I'm off to go draw some custom pins.

10 days left... let's shake things up
about 1 month ago – Mon, Oct 14, 2024 at 01:08:02 PM

Good evening, bird gang!

It's a nice day off for most of you in the States. I hope you had a restful, mindful Indigenous People's day. Get some good sleep, go for a walk, spent some time with family and take it easy. And, if you're me, enjoy this fall weather before it turns sour and reminds you that you live in upstate New York.

As of this morning, we have 10 days left on GOLDEN AGE PARROTS. We've been funded, so we're in decent shape... but, we've been sitting for a good few days, and I hate that. Because there's a lot more to do.

So, let's shake things up a little bit and reveal the next few stretch goals. I've already added them all to the campaign, so you can see some more details if you want 'em.

First up, sticker sheets!

You might have seen these doing the rounds on social media - people really seemed to like them.

At our $8,500 stretch goal, every backer will get one 4x4 vinyl sticker sheet... for free. Just like on BIRD CRIMES.

However, unlike BIRD CRIMES, you have some options.

If we hit that milestone, you will be given the option between the yellow, green, red and blue sheets during your survey. Oh, the choices. Are you picking the raucous, rambunctious red team, the gregarious greens, or the boisterous blues? You have time to decide - we aren't quite at that point.

In case you want to lock down a sheet, or you want multiple, I've gone ahead and tossed these guys on the addon shop. You can add extras to your haul now. 4x4 sheets are available to add to any pledge.

Remember, individual 3" vinyl stickers are also available for every unlocked bird (and color morph!)

It seems like everyone's been waiting for these, so let's put them up now: our $8.8k stretch goal is three highly requested "parrots!" Aim for the stars, and let's unlock the spiky, goth, and tuxedo parrot pins.

After this, is one more round of color alts, before we hit our 1.5" pin tier.

$9.99k unlocks a brand new pin style for every bird we've already got. You can see what each bird's alternate small pin looks like on their unlock card.

We're at a critical point in the campaign, where there are a lot of things I'd like to unlock so I can stock them in the shop later. I would absolutely love to have the full 2", 1.5" and 1" pin sets, so I can offer them all together in in-person retail events.

Would you do me (and Doreen) a huge favor, and enter this double campaign giveaway? By sharing our birds on your socials, you can bring us both a boost. Enter on Twitter to win a big, bouncy green cheek conure plush, and three of my 2" pins.

I hope we can reach $9.99k, and get those little 1.5" birds going. No matter what happens, we haven't done too bad.

Take it easy this week, and thank you for backing GOLDEN AGE PARROTS!
