Just want to let you know I have some stuff cooking, amid some other obligations taking up my time. Sorry for the radio silence!

As a quick heads up - it looks like BIRD CRIMES pins were down from the KEN'S PIN HUSTLE shop for a couple days. There was some error with Square's inventory and item page that wiped the listings and their stock counts (which is how I spent last night, instead of drawing for you guys.)

A customer thankfully caught it, and as of last night, it's been fixed. If you are looking for those pins, and missed them yesterday, you should now be able to purchase them. We're also back on a normal shipping schedule, with a 2-3 day turnaround at most.


Back to the campaign, we are about $750 from our face mini pins goal right now. Unlock these little guys for each bird design the second we hit $6k.

Good morning, bird gang!

We launched GOLDEN AGE PARROTS on Tuesday, the 1st. That means we've been active for a whole week. I've been busy tying up all the ends on BIRD CRIMES, and arguing with the DMV about my car insurance. Don't ask. It's going to be hilarious as soon as it's done.

It's pretty typical for campaigns to slow down after the first 48 hours, so, let's do something about that.

First off: do you like free shit? Of course you do! Everyone does.

My good friend Doreen at roundbirbart makes the best stylized birdies. She approached me about running a tandem giveaway, with her green cheek conure plushie project that's also going on right now.

If you're on Twitter, go enter the giveaway! You'll need to follow both of us, do a couple social media things, and tell us what kind of birds you'd like to see from us next. Who knows? I might add them to the campaign.

Anyways, on to GAP! Let's recap.

In about 4 hours we unlocked our base $2.2k stretch goal. The cockatiels, budgies, green cheek pins are available for backers. The GUNBIRD is also an option for anyone looking for a little more firepower - and, she's free to all BIRD CRIMES veterans. That's not too shabby!


We've cleared four stretch goals so far. Currently, these are the items available to backers:

As of the time of writing, we are genuinely two dollars away from our first Color Morphs stretch goal, which is equal parts infuriating and absolutely hilarious. This would add a new color option for all current pins. That's a total of 11 "new" pins for backers to agonize over. Oh, the burden of choice.

Our next milestone after that is the 1" face pins at $6k!

This is an expansion to all existing base pins. So far, we've been unlocking the 2" full artwork pins. But, each bird has two other options: their 1.5" alternate art small pin, and their 1" mini pin.

This will retroactively unlock a 1" pin for every single current bird. For anyone keeping track, that's the cockatiel, budgie, green cheek, lovebird, caique, sun conure, scarlet macaw, Indian ringneck, quaker parakeet, and African gray. It's pretty far out, but, we can unlock color morphs for these guys too.

1" pins will be available as $6 addons to any pledge level the second $6k is reached.


Our next stretch goal at $6.9k is another batch of full birds. Because we're past the $6k, these guys will join the parrot party with both their 2" and 1" pins available right off the bat. There's some big, fat, heavy hitting birds in this bracket, including the adorable (yet awful) kakapo. Nice!


After that comes Color Morphs 2 at $7.3k. Most unlocked pins get a little bit more love with another new color option! Yellow budgies, white face tiels, and another big red macaw are up for grabs here.


The next new birds are these totally normal parrots. If we can get to $7.8k, I'll bless you guys with this trash-dwelling parrot, and this small Japanese parrot I see everywhere. I love parrots. So do all of you. Parrots! Remember: because we're past $6k, all new parrot characters will be unlocked with their corresponding 1" pin ready to go.

As it goes, I am working on further stretch goals. It's a little bit of a spoiler, but our next one is taking a spiritual page from BIRD CRIMES' book: $8k marks 4x4 freebie sheets for backers, with a few different variants to pick from. They'll also be available as stretch goals.

After that, is another bracket of totally normal parrots at $8.8k. The blue jay, crow, and toucan still need artwork, which is cooking as we speak.

There is one more color morph goal at $9.5k, with pearl cockatiels, white budgies, the military macaw, and Major Mitchell's cockatoo, among others.

The most important upcoming goal is $9.9k (or, stylishly $9,999), which is the 1.5" small pins. Just like the $6k goal, this will retroactively unlock all designs' 1.5" design. It also means any further birds, whether they're my idea or yours, will get theirs right off the bat.

Depending on how far we get, I'd like to do a backer vote at $13k. I'll toss a poll up for you guys to vote on the top 3 options... check below, for that.

I should have at least preliminary art for all of these next week. And, remember, we have the $25k griffin mega pin! Corviforms drew this excellent little guy for us. Can we get to him?

We're just past 24 hours, and, all things considered, we're doing pretty good.

Just after I woke up, we unlocked...

The Indian ringneck pair, African gray, and quaker parakeet have joined the full 2" pin roster.

I've updated the story page to reflect the new unlocks.

Our next stretch goal is in just under $150. Do you guys like stickers? I hope so! We'll open up 3" vinyls as an option at $4.35k.


You'll be able to add any unlocked 2" design to your order as an addon - including color morphs.

I also want to plug a project by a friend. Doreen, of roundbirbart, just launched her green cheek conure plush campaign this morning! 

This campaign is a follow-up to her adorable lovebird plush. There's 6 conure colors to unlock, with one final stretch goal vote if all of them are cleared. Each conure is just shy of 10 inches tall. I had the privilege of handling one of the lovebirds for a combined US order last month, and they are super cute, super high-quality plush.

There's also lots of adorable enamel pins to pick up. If you're a conure guy, this one is for you. Doreen is a huge influence on my choice to get into pins, and her painterly parrots are some of my favorites. These are serious lapel pins, in every sense of the word: they're elegant and classy.

So, the beasts have been fed, coffee has been consumed, and the fulfillment station has been set up on my dining table for some BIRD CRIMES order corrections. You have my full attention for... like, an hour.

We reached our $2.2k funding goal in about 3 hours. It took just under 50 backers to hit that point, which isn't bad at all.

This means that our five base pins are unlocked, and ready to buy for backers. Since we are funded, all BIRD CRIMES backers will also receive their free GUNBIRD pin. 

Both tiels, budgies, and the grumpy greencheek are just some of your 2" pin options.

They are just "some," because, while I was cleaning up from work, we also hit...

Our first $3k stretch goal was reached late this afternoon.

The four 2" pins in this bracket - the sun conure, white-bellied caique, peach-faced lovebird and scarlet macaw - are now available for backers.

Another important thing happened today: custom tiers are going quickly.

You might notice another, bright-blue bird: one of three CUSTOM COLOR tiers has been purchased, and selected their bird! One of your fellow backers has backed to get themselves, and you, this parrot: say hi to the hyacinth macaw!

The CUSTOM COLOR tier means you get to pick a new coat of paint for an existing 2" pin in the campaign, which will be offered alongside its base unlock. You'll get 10 of your custom pin, and make it available for everyone else on the project.

If you want something a little more exclusive, there is also a CUSTOM PIN tier. You'll get a special design of your very own bird or character, and get a full 50-pin run just for you.

Two backers have purchased custom colors, and one has picked up the completely custom pin option. There is now one of each custom tier remaining. To get your custom creation cooking, you should email me as soon as possible so I can do a few sketches for you.
